Greg Hewitt

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?

A: I have to say, not having to wear a suit & tie every day is awesome. I’ve always felt a relaxed dress code is one of the keys to a happy and productive shop!

Seriously though, I really enjoy and appreciate the autonomy my bosses give me on a daily basis to determine the content of the show.

I also enjoy the opportunity to get involved with our public affairs programming. I ran a non-profit organization at one point in my career and have great respect for those trying to make our community a better place to live. Anything I can do to help them is my pleasure.

Q: What’s a good day for you?

A: At this point, I don’t measure it by “success” so much as by the level of drama around the house before I go into work. For example, right now as I write this, my youngest son, who’s 3, is screaming at the top of his lungs about wanting to sneeze on the “Family iPad.” (Update) He just did. Someone get me a Kleenex for this kid!

Just overheard, my 5 year old daughter, ” Don’t do THAT to your pancakes!.”

So at this point, a good day would be if my son stops sneezing on the iPad and my daughter stops obsessing over everyone else’s pancakes. Right now, we’re teetering on the edge of a semi-decent morning. It’s all about perspective though. Life is super busy and stressful these days but I’m surrounded by a loving family (literally surrounded, they’re watching me write this so they can play Ninja Warrior on the computer when I’m done.) They’re my heart and soul though, as busy as it is, life is good.

Q: Describe yourself and your show.

A: Easily startled.

Slightly sarcastic, self-deprecating and prone to injury, according to my wife (and Sue Thomas, our traffic reporter)

“Traveling pain” has become a meme on the show.

Generally, if anyone gets teased or “brushed back” on the show, it’s me (or Gwyneth Paltrow.)

Q: Describe your relationship with Sue Thomas, who does traffic every afternoon.

A: We agree on so much yet it’s the things we don’t see eye-to-eye on that provide the best moments.

We’ve settled into our “routine” now after 2 years. For example, I know not to adjust the studio temperature to any setting below 70. She knows not to mock my “swim shirt.” You see how it works? Respect.

Q: What do you do when you’re not working?

A: I’m usually involved in mediating some sort of dispute between my oldest son (8) and daughter, (5) while keeping my youngest son (3) occupied and engaged. I love to golf, watch the Cards and enjoy a rare night out with my wife of 15 years. A nap every so often is a rare treat. Suffice it to say, there is heavy coffee consumption around our house.

Favorite Restaurant:

A: Pappy’s BBQ. Steak N Shake is my choice for a burger. Kids eat free on Saturday nights BTW! My wife and I used to eat out quite a bit before we had kids although the lack of sitters has cramped our style a bit.
