Road Rage in Scottland is Punishable by Knitting

Some call it a hobby, but in Scottland they call it alternative punishment.

A woman in Scotland who tailed another driver for several miles before punching her in the face has been offered an alternative to prison: knit a bunch of sweaters and donate them to charity.

Appearing in Dundee Sheriff Court, Amanda McCabe claimed she didn’t mean to follow the female driver she assaulted and that it was just a coincidence her victim was headed in the same direction she was–toward a store called The Knitting Pin.

In response, Sheriff John Rafferty told McCabe, “You went in the same direction as your victim, at the very least, and then went to her car door and assaulted her. If you are a skilled knitter, then I am sure that you could produce some goods for charity.”

She’s now due back in court on December 14, when she’ll have to produce “multiple knitted items” to prove she doesn’t deserve hard time.
