Like most “70’s kids”, Match Game with Gene Rayburn as host, was a huge part of my childhood.
It seemed more like an odd, but fun adult party to us than a game show, as Richard Dawson, Charles Nelson Reilly and Brett Sommers guided the mostly clueless contestants through a series of ridiculous questions and double entendres, most of which we didn’t quite understand yet.
But we somehow knew they were funny, because everyone on stage (and in the audience) couldn’t stop laughing for more that a minute or two.
It’s still my favorite game show of all-time and one I always hoped they would try to revive with he right host.
Alec Baldwin…come on down!
ABC is bringing back the Match Game as part of a three-hour block on the network, which will also feature “Celebrity Family Feud” hosted by Steve Harvey and a remake of another great game show from the past, “$100,000 Pyramid” with Michael Strahan at the helm.
I’m intrigued by Baldwin as host, but he’s got some big shoes to fill (not to mention a really long microphone.)
