Trish’s Trash: New Movies This Weekend

Trish

Mortdecai-Based on The Mortdecai Trilogy book series, it stars Johnny Depp as art dealer Charlie Mortdecai. Struggling to support his lavish lifestyle, Mortdecai accepts a job from his old friend Alistair Maitland, played by Ewan McGregor, to find a stolen Goya painting. Things become more complicated for Mortdecai when an American heiress and revolutionary all set out to find the painting, which is rumored to contain the code to a bank account filled with Nazi gold. Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bethany also star. Rated R. (1 hour 47 min)

The Boy Next Door-Jennifer Lopez leads the cast of this psychological thriller that explores a forbidden attraction between a teacher and her younger next door neighbor that goes much too far. Directed by Rob Cohen, the film also stars Ryan Guzman, John Corbett and Kristin Chenoweth. Don’t get me wrong, this looks like something I would be into…but it looks like a glorified Lifetime movie. Right? Rated R. (1 hour 31 min)

Cake-Jennifer Aniston as Claire Simmons, a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of a woman in her chronic pain support group. She was snubbed at the Oscars for this role….at least that’s what some say. Felicity Huffman, Anna Kendrick, William H. Macy and Meryl Streep’s daughter, Mamie Gummer also star. Rated R. (1 hour 42 min)

Strange Magic-Inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, it’s an animated fairy tale musical that follows a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies, and imps as they battle over a powerful potion. Evan Rachel Wood stars. Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) voices the villain. Rated PG (1 hour 39 min)
