NFL Stadium Proposal Would Impose No New Tax Burden on Missourians

A proposal for a nearly $1 billion stadium, being called the “crown jewel” of downtown St. Louis, was revealed Friday afternoon during a news conference at Union Station.

Dave Peacock, a member of the task force appointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to conduct an analysis of options to keep St. Louis a NFL city, pitched a plan for a new $860 – 985 million stadium.

The proposed open-air, riverfront stadium – which would seat 64,000, with 7,500 club seats and could double as a soccer stadium – would be complete with an entertainment district.

According to Peacock, this plan has been shared with the NFL and St. Louis Rams, but not with Rams owner Stan Kroenke.

“This is not about the owner of the Rams. This is our team. This is St. Louis’ team.” Peacock¬† said.

The stadium, a public asset, would be owned by a public entity. It would be leased to the NFL franchise and would also be able to be leased to a MLS franchise.
