It’s always nice to give back and do something nice for others. Our Random Act of Kindness initiative has given me the chance to see how even the simplest gifts can impact someone so powerfully. Thanks to Fresh 102.5 and Commerce Bank, we’ve been able to go out and impact people in a positive way this Holiday Season.
Our most recent RAOK was delivering lunch to those working in the MERS Goodwill career center. We picked up an 8 ft. sandwich tray from Schnuks, along with a couple bags of chips, a tray of cookies and a large pack of water. After delivering the sandwiches, we soon realized we had forgotten the plates yet the Shell station next door helped us avert disaster.
The good people at MERS were awesome and extremely gracious. If anybody deserved lunch on us it’s them. Goodwill was established in 1902 by a Methodist minister. He helped salvage and refurbish goods such as clothing and furniture and helped provide them to those in need. Missouri established a Goodwill in 1908 and in 2001, merged with the Metropolitan Employment and Rehabilitation Service to form MERS/Missouri Goodwill. They offer training and educational programs as well as career counseling to help place those out of work in positions that fit them. Providing such goodwill to others, it was time for someone else to show goodwill towards them.
