Tragic news to report. Comedian Robin Williams has died in an apparent suicide. He was 63.
According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities found Williams’ body inside his home in Tiburon, Calif. They say he was found unresponsive, unconscious and not breathing.
The coroner suspects suicide due to asphyxia, but a final determination is yet to be made.
“Robin Williams passed away this morning,” said Mara Buxbaum, president of Williams’ PR firm, according to USA Today. “He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
His wife, Susan Schneider, issued a brief statement: “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken,” she said, USA Today reported.
Williams went to rehab last month to focus on his sobriety. He struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse in the early ’80s but was sober for 20 years.
