This weekend, St. Louisans may experience delays and traffic issues with various construction & on-going lane closures. Plan accordingly for your weekend travels around the area.
Starting at noon on Saturday, September 7th, westbound Interstate 64 Daniel Boone Missouri River bridge will be closed until no later than 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 8 for a bridge inspection. This means there will be no access across the river westbound from St. Louis County to St. Charles county during this time. However, I-64 eastbound will be open all weekend.
MoDOT advises motorists to use the other three Mississipppi River crossings between St. Louis & St. Charles counties during the weekend. These alternate routes include Interstate 70, Route 364 and Route 370.
In St. Louis City, there will be several lanes closed on I-64 on the Poplar Street Bridge. Lanes heading into the city will open an hour before the Cardinals take on the Pittsburgh Pirates and lanes headed out of the city will open for at least an hour after the game has finished.
Planned work on Interstate 64 this weekend includes closing two left lanes on Friday, September 6th on westbound I-64 at the Poplar Street Bridge starting at 8 p.m. At 12:01 a.m. Saturday, crews will close the left two lanes on eastbound I-64 as well. On Saturday, September 7, crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-70 to the Poplar Street Bridge at 12:01 a.m. Crews will re-open the ramp before the end of the Cardinal games on Saturday and Sunday and will keep it open for at least an hour after the games end.
MoDOT says that at least one through lane on I-64 will remain open both westbound & eastbound on the bridge and in the city. All lanes and ramps will reopen before 5 AM on Monday, September 9th.
Also, on eastbound I-70 in St. Charles County, three lanes will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. One left lane and one right lane will remain open, meaning traffic will be shifted between the work zone, so be sure to slow down and pay attention.
