One of my favorite actors, Dennis Farina, passed away earlier today at the age of 69.

Farina was best known for playing tough guys on television and throughout his film career.  He wasn’t fake tough either–he was real-life tough, having spent many years as a police officer in Chicago.  His acting always had an authenticity to it and his background as a cop was probably a big part of that.

His TV roles included stints on “Miami Vice”, “Crime Story” and most recently on “Law and Order.”

His film roles included “Get Shorty” (Remember…”Look at me Ray!”), “The Mod Squad” and “Snatch”

His greatest role, at least to me, was as the Chicago gangster Jimmy Serrano, in the very funny, underrated 1988 film, “Midnight Run”, co-starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin.

Enjoy some of his finest work (and a warning) keep the sound turned down on this one.
