10. “Venus”- Bananarama

It’s true; this isn’t just a song written for a girlie, expensive razor blade. British pop trio, Bananarama, covered this once feminist ditty, written by Dutch band Shocking Blue in 1969, and turned it into a dance song.

9. “When I Think Of You”- Janet Jackson

We’re not sorry that Ms. Jackson had so many hits in 1986-including the insanely cute “When I Think Of You” that was number one on the Billboard dance charts at some point that year.

8.  “Sledgehammer”-Peter Gabriel

This soul-inspired song by British pop artist, Peter Gabriel, was most infamous for its massively influential and groundbreaking music video with all its special effects.

7. “Two Of Hearts”-Stacy Q

This song is still oft-played in dance clubs with bouncing young ladies manually gesticulating the title of this song.

6. “Danger Zone”-Kenny Loggins

Made popular from the Top Gun movie, “Danger Zone, ” this song written by the infamous Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock was initially offered to Bryan Adams and Toto. Luckily for Loggins, he got it.

One of Eddie Murphy’s only musical hits, “Party All The Time” is the perfect theme song for the girl who, well, likes to party all the time.

4. “West End Girls”-Pet Shop Boys

Still one of the sexiest songs ever written, Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls” synthpop/hip-hop inspiration was a decade or so ahead of its time.

Another Janet Jackson hit from 1986,the song “Control” beat out her brother at the 1988 Soul Train Awards winning Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video.

The eccentric and exotically beautiful Grace Jones made the whole world “Slave To The Rhythm,” doing things Lady Gaga wishes she could do decades later.
