Actress Kate Winslet was staying at the island vacation home of Virgin billionaire Richard Branson when Hurricane Irene swept through, lightning struck the home and burned the whole place to the ground.
Chalk one up for the poor, amirite?
Anyway, Kate Winslet was one of twenty or so guests staying at the posh digs, called Necker Island, along with her family – all of whom escaped unharmed by the way. Billionaire Branson credits his son and Kate for helping everyone out safely, including his 90-year-old mother, who Kate picked up and carried to safety when the house caught fire at around 4am.
Of course, Branson also said that it wasn’t completely necessary (since his mom CAN walk) but he appreciated that she took swift action and sped up the running-away-from-death-process for everyone.
Oh by the way… Richard Branson sleeps naked, in case you ever wondered. Apparently Mr. Big Bucks ran naked from his villa on the island towards the burning building, passing through a cactus bush, on his way to help during the evacuation.
That must have been SOME sight. Sheesh… celebrities have all the fun!
