UPDATE:  Entertainment Weekly has now confirmed that Ashton Kutcher will indeed be replacing Charlie Sheen on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men.  This comes after speculation ran rampant on Kutcher’s involvement after a mysterious tweet last night.

In a statement, Kutcher said:

I can’t wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers’ homes.  I can’t replace Charlie Sheen but I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!

Production on the new season is set to begin this summer.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Brit Hugh Grant, who has seen his own fair share of scandal, was in talks to replace Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. He ended up bailing, not wanting the rigorous TV work load. But now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ashton Kutcher is in talks to take on the replacement role and it appears very likely that it may happen.

According to the Wall Street Journal:

As part of the deal, Mr. Kutcher would be paid around $1 million per episode, the people briefed on the deal said. It is unclear whether that figure includes any share in the back-end profits from reruns of the program. Spokesmen for CBS and Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., declined to comment about Mr. Kutcher. Mr. Kutcher’s spokeswoman and agent could not be reached for comment. But Mr. Kutcher on Twitter late Thursday asked “what’s the square root of 6.25?” in an apparent reference to the number in the title of “Men.”

Kutcher is no stranger to television, getting his start in the business on the popular That 70’s Show.  But a career in the movies has never really skyrocketed for Kutcher, who in the film world is probably best known for the low-brow cult favorite Dude Where’s My Car. In recent years, his roles as the younger husband of Demi Moore, as a television producer, and as one of Twitter’s premiere celebrities, have been more prominent than his acting.

So what do you think? Do you think Kutcher would be a good replacement for Sheen?  Take our poll and let us know!
