Here is the inevitable path of the average modern pop star: you make a smash hit record, you tour for two to four years, you put out your sophomore effort, your business consultants tell you to start a clothing line, a perfume company, and a shoe line.
Depending on the pop star’s personal design aesthetic, sometimes the clothes are gorgeous, but most of the time they are bottom-of-the-sale-bin level.
Using our keen sense of fashion judgement, we decided to rate Ten Celeb Curated Fashion Lines from stars like [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Miley Cyrus[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lindsay Lohan[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gwen Stefani[/lastfm] to tell you whether you should save your money to buy their next album instead of their furry, animal-print booty shorts.
10. Abbey Dawn by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Avril Lavigne[/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥ (6 out of 10 hearts)
Avril Lavigne’s pretty punk rock princess fashion line Abbey Dawn actually isn’t that bad, but it’s made for the Hot Topic teen set rather than fashionable adults–which is what Lavigne now is.
It would be a little different if she didn’t insist on wearing her brand everywhere, but the designs are cute, affordable, and they look like reasonable items for a 15-year-old to wear going out to the movies with her friends.
9. Dereon by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ (5 out of 10 hearts)
Dereon by Beyoncé (and her mother) is presumably supposed to be urban city chic. While some of the clothing is innocuous (like the sassy little leopard-print maxi dress below) still others just look cheap.
We are sure there are less gaudy ways of outfitting the Beyoncé fan on a budget. Going off the message on the Dereon necklace, maybe it’s actually Dereon that needs an upgrade.
8. Jessica Simpson by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jessica Simpson [/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (8 out of 10 hearts)
It’s been a long time since we heard music out of Jessica Simpson, but maybe that’s because she is so busy curating one of the most fabulous, yet financially practical pop diva fashion lines out there. Simpson has a wide array of clothing from dresses to denim to shoes to swimwear.
Almost all of it is cute, seemingly well-designed and fits the design aesthetic of a broad range of styles. Right now, Jessica Simpson has a ton of on-trend coral mini-dresses like the sexy number below.
7. Miley Cyrus Walmart by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Miley Cyrus [/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥ (3 out of 10 hearts)
Well, Miley Cyrus for Walmart is cheap and when you’ve got a pre-teen child, you know they grow out of clothing so fast that cheaper is better.
But most of the patterns and designs are totally ostentatious–and not in a good way. Below, we’ve found some of the cuter, more demure options. Oh, and a pair of zebra-print booty shorts.
6. Paris Hilton Shoes by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paris Hilton[/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥ (2 out of 10 hearts)
Frankly, the in-your-face design is expected from a lady as stylistically classy as Paris Hilton.
But, all sarcasm aside, Hilton’s shoes just look like drunken elves cobbled them together–the craftsmanship is totally shoddy. Do they actually hold up walking down a city street? We don’t know. But these shoes surely don’t look made for walking.
Oh, and PS: Yes, Paris Hilton used to be a pop “star.”
5. JLO by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Jennifer Lopez[/lastfm]
Rating: ♥ (1 out of 10 hearts)
Jennifer Lopez only gets one heart because the many manifestations of her brand (JLo, Sweetface, Just Sweet) don’t technically exist anymore. What is still out there is “designer collectables” on Ebay or these horribly boring shoes.
4. Victoria Beckham by[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”] Victoria Beckham[/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (9 out of 10 hearts)
Ex-Spice Girl, Posh Spice, lives up to the posh part of her pseudonym with her runway ready clothing line.
It seems like Victoria Beckham designs clothes she wants to wear. Luckily for the rest of humanity, her sense of style is practically impeccable: ’60s-esque sheath dresses, well-crafted skinny jeans, and fabulous clutches.
The only thing truly scary about Beckham’s clothing line? The prices. Ouch.
3. 6126 by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lindsay Lohan [/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ( 8 out of 10 hearts)
Lindsay Lohan designs perfect clothing for the early 2o-something fashionista that likes to party: comfy-chic leggings, sexy mini-dresses, and all-over sequin hoodies.
Thanks to everything being on sale on her clothing site, the prices aren’t that bad, but it makes us sad because Lohan might actually have a good thing going on with her laid-back California club girl wear.
2. Material Girl by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Madonna[/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ( 8 out of 10 hearts)
1. L.A.M.B by [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Gwen Stefani [/lastfm]
Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥ ( 10 out of 10 hearts)
Gwen Stefani’s clothing line, Love Angel Music Baby, or L.A.M.B, is practically perfect in every way. Her clothing fuses her Orange County ska-rock life sensibilities with fresh, modern designer touches and an intuitive conscientiousness of women’s needs and bodies.
Unfortunately, LAMB is not cheap, but the prices are reasonable for designer duds that give you quality over quantity.
