Smash Mouth

When [lastfm]Smash Mouth[/lastfm] needed to follow their smash hit All-Star, they reached back to the 1960s for a song written by [lastfm]Niel Diamond[/lastfm] and popularized by [lastfm]The Monkees[/lastfm]. I’m a Believer was a number one hit for The Monkees for seven weeks straight, and it managed to take Smash Mouth to number 25.

Smash Mouth recorded the song in 2001 with Eddie Murphy as part of the soundtrack to the film Shrek. The song was chosen for use in the film because of its opening line “I thought love was only true in fairy tales,” which fit well with the theme of the movie.
